Just before officially signing aboard, director Joe Johnston discussed "The First Avenger: Captain America" as well as his connection to the era that Cap represents - which is similar to how he feels about his earlier film, The Rocketeer.

Awesome interview Ed, thats a big fish!

I'm liking the sound of this. I'm glad he will be taking a more realistic approach to Cap. In certain hands Cap would wake up, take a look around and think America was as glorious as ever and proceed to boot out the foreigners. He seems to have a good grasp of what is really great about the character. Its news to me thought that this whole thing isn't finalized, I thought it was a done deal..just waiting for a cast!

He seemed to really open up when you asked about Rocketeer. How long ago did you do this interview and why have you been holding out on us? :D

After hearing this, I hope he doesn't keep it too grounded in reality, this is a comic book character after all.

The interview was only done several weeks ago, more in conjunction with The Wolfman. It was right before his deal was finalized, though, obviously from the interview, he was already giving Captain America a lot of thought.
