Edward James Olmost Joins Dexter in Season 6
Edward James Olmos, late of Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, is reportedly joining Dexter in season six in a "major" recurring role.
Offers Deadline, "Olmos will play a brilliant, charismatic professor of religious studies. He joins such previous seasonal guests on the show as Jimmy Smits, John Lithgow and Julia Stiles. Production on Dexter begins May 25 for a premiere this fall."
Although only conjecture at this point, it sounds as though the season could be influenced by the third chapter in Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novels, Dexter in the Dark, which deals largely with dark religion and its connection to Dex's Dark Passenger.

Edward James Olmos is an acclaimed actor, director and activist. Among his most memorable roles are William Adama in the re-imagined “Battlestar Galactica,” Lt. Martin Castillo in “Miami Vice,” teacher Jaime Escalante in “Stand and Deliver,” patriarch Abraham Quintanilla in the film “Selena,” Detective Gaff in “Blade Runner,” and narrator El Pachuco in both the stage and film versions of “Zoot Suit.” His first big break was a starring role in Luis Valdez's play, "Zoot Suit", in 1978. The play moved to Broadway and led to a Tony® nomination. He received a Best Actor Academy Award® nomination for his starring role in Stand and Deliver. Other credits include "American Me" (his directing debut), “The Green Hornet” and appearances on "The West Wing" and "American Family".
One of the most acclaimed series on television, DEXTER stars Michael C. Hall (Golden Globe and SAG Award® winner) as a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer.
