I hate seeing deaths to long standing comic icons for two reason. The first being that nobody wants to see their favorite hero die. The second is that as soon as the companies realize how popular the hero was and sales take a dip... the hero is returned to the living.

It's always a gimmick.

And I think it's ALWAYS the intention to bring them back at some point. When DC killed Superman, there's just no way they were going to leave him dead, it was just a question of HOW and WHEN they would bring him back.

I don't doubt that one bit.

I think everyone knows they won't stay dead forever, at least when they kill off any popular hero. But they should try to keep them dead for a while. When Barry Allen was killed back in 1985 Crisis and they brought him back in 2008, that was great because it didn't cheapen his death. If the Human Torch comes back in a few months or a year then it cheapens his death a little and reduces it to a sales gimmick.

You're right -- watching the world go on for some time without a particular character is a hell of a lot more interesting than a quick resurrection.

Totally agree. He was really the only member of the FF I gave a shit about, but I hope they keep him dead for at least a couple years. It would make his return 1,000 times more powerful.
