Brian Cox Takes on Villain Role in Rise of the Apes

Actor Brian Cox will be reteaming with his Escapist director Rupert Wyatt in Rise of the Apes, taking on the villainous (there's a shock!) role whose actions play a significant role in humanity's downfall.
Reports The Wrap, "Cox is in final negotiations to play the villainous owner of a primate sanctuary who runs the facility without compassion for the animals that live there... Set in present day San Francisco, the origin story deals with the aftermath of man's experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. A chimp named Caesar (Andy Serkis)leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by John Lithgow and James Franco's father-and-son scientist characters."

Apparently Cox's character's inhumanity to the apes -- mirroring that of Don Murray's Governor Breck in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, which this film is a loose remake of -- with serve as a major impetus for Caesar's seething hatred for humans.
