ecksmanfan reviews "Batman: The Long Halloween"

I'm not a huge reader of DC Comics, but this one intrigued me. Here's my take
Gotham has come to a standstill as a new killer has gripped the city. The killer, aptly named "Holiday," does his work on holidays and seems to be targeting one of the Gotham's crime lords. It's up to Batman and two of the few people he trusts, James Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, to find out who "Holiday" is and put a stop to his antics

As I stated in my teaser, I'm usually not a reader of DC Comics, but after seeing "The Dark Knight" and knowing that "The Long Halloween" was one of the sources for that film, I had to give this one a try. I'm glad I did.

The story is very well written and keeps you intrigued from the get-go. It is fast paced and only gives very subtle hints ast to who the killer could be. All of Batman's foes are featured into the story, which is really cool and rather unsual to see them all in one story (at least to me).

The artwork is simple in its lines, but very well done. Some of the characters, like Joker and Two-Face are rather creepy looking, yet tastefully done. Naturally, Batman is kept to the shadows, adding to his mysteriousness.

This ranks pretty highly on my list of graphic novels and I'm anxious to read other works by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. They are quite the team.
