Fletch Heading the Reboot Route

Warner Brothers is fast-tracking a reboot of Fletch, the '80s Chevy Chase franchise that is being seen as a complete reimagination as much more of an action comedy than the farcical approach taken on the original.
Currently being negotiated with to script is David Mandel, the former Seinfeld writer-producer who has scripted Sacha Baron Cohen's forthcoming comedy The Dictator.

Says The Hollywood Reporter, "The 11 mystery books, the first of which was published in 1974, center on a reporter named I.M. Fletcher who juggles writing exposes while avoiding headaches caused by his two ex-wives. The book and its first sequel are the only novels to win back-to-back Edgar Allan Poe Awards, the prize handed out by the Mystery Writers of America."
