Sam Worthington is Alan Quartermain

Hollywood's IT guy again bagging a meaty lead role. What do people see in him?
Sam Worthington is reported to be attached to Dreamwork's Quartermain, a new take on H Rider Haggard's hero of King Solomon's Mines.

The project which currently is just called Quartermain, takes the basic plot of King Solomon's Mines then overhauled the rest. It's reported to be set it in a time when humanity has departed the Earth. The hero, Alan Quartermain, returns to earth and sets off on a new adventure on a planet-wide scale.

Mark Verheiden (Timecop)wrote the draft, and the script is now in the hands of Miles Millar and Alfred Gough(Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor - yikes) are shepherding the film on its quest to the screen. Sam Worthington is also trying his hands in the producer role.

The project is still in need of a director.

i still see sean connery as alan quartermain (ala LXG). i'm not sure how they'll work the future thing in though.

however Sam would not make an excellent Cap...he's australian and i'm sorry but Captain America should be an American. can't say that i agree with Chris Evans but we'll see what least Joss Whedon is doing the Avengers. and hopefully Nathan Fillion is Hank Pym.
