The Last Stand joins Earth Mightiest Fansites

The Last Stand is a web series about survival and redemption in a zombie apocalypse nightmare. An airborne virus known as the Campion Virus, is spreading like wildfire through the populous. Seven people are running from zombie, the left overs of the military trying to fire bomb the infected, and themselves.
Hello everyone. I did a little intro article about us, but I wanted to take a moment to make a proper hello, tell you about the series, and welcome you to our fanpage as well as our site.

The Last Stand is essentially a giant accident that seems to have turned out well for me. Back in June of '09, a friend/employee of mine wanted to look for some locations for a possible zombie comedy that she had in mind, but had never put to paper. I took her to a few choice sites, one that was an old dock building company that died nearly forty years ago. The remains of the building were nothing more than concrete walls, a smoke stack, and a skateboards wet dream. I contacted a friend of mine who works for the folks who own the site, to which she told me "You'll never get to film there. It is set to be demolition in 24 to 48 hours." So, with that, I used one hand to dial all my friends, while I wrote a script with the other hand. With nothing in mind to begin with, what came out was a group of survivors, hold up in a burned out build, dodging zombies, and trying to out run the remains of the military fire bombing the country side after the mutation of a viral infection known as The Campion Virus.

The story emerged from a thread created by some people at a web site called Lost Zombies. They are trying to create a user generated zombie documentary. I used a story idea that they introduced to the public: people trying to get to a safe place known as St. Teresa's.

So, 24 hours after the initial call, half of my friends showed up and only came with half the gear I had requested. I waited several hours waiting for people, and finally reassigned roles and dialog to people who didn't even know they were going to act. After three hours of filming, and a few audio gear troubles, the five pages were filmed. Because I thought the whole thing was a tragedy, I shelved it for three months. Later, when I wanted some clips for a demo reel, I decided some of it wasn't too bad. So I slapped some sound effects on and released it to The Lost Zombies site. What happened next really surprised me.

My inbox was getting flooded.

People wanted to know when the next episode was coming out. Um...there wasn't another one. I just left it hanging because I thought that was interesting. After a few days of a full inbox, I decided I should do something. So I rounded everyone up and asked if they thought we could do it again. Everyone was on board, as well as new people who believe in the idea and went for it. We started shooting in October of 2009, and filmed most everything from October through November for episodes 2-4. Episode 5 was filmed all in one day in January of 2010. We released episode 2 on January 1st, 2010, nearly four months after the first episode. We have been getting a few thousand views each month ever since. It has been slow, but steady. I have worked very hard to get us out there, and with the web being full of people doing exactly the same thing I am, it has been a blessing that people have found us at all.

To date, episode 4 came out March 1st, and was released to our site, TheLastStandOnline.com, as well as Lost Zombies, Geek Girls Network, BrainsBrainsBrains, Zombie Command, and a host of other zombie sites, as well as SciFinal, who has been one of our biggest supporters. We also signed a marketing and distribution agreement with RenderYard in Europe to begin marketing and distributing The Last Stand to markets we could never touch.

So here we are, on the raggedy edge...as Malcolm Reynolds would say. We are self funding, self producing our baby. We hope you like, because we have had a great time doing it. Currently, we have shirts for sale if you wish to help us out. You wearing one means you have donated to the cause and you are helping to advertise the series. Fifteen dollars gets you a shirt and helps us keep it going.

We will begin shooting the next phase of episodes in a couple of months. In the mean time, check us out here, and at our site, and tell all your friends about us!

Thanks again...
