Deadline is reporting that David S. Goyer - best known for his work on Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and the upcoming Superman reboot, Man Of Steel - has officially been hired to write the screenplay of the upcoming Godzilla reboot. Gareth Edwards is attached to direct the Legendary Pictures project, while Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce.

Now the in-demand writer will pen the screenplay, from a draft written by David Callaham, for Legendary Pictures’ new version of Godzilla. The project will fall under Legendary's overall agreement with Warner Bros while Toho Company, which own the rights to the oversized reptile, will distribute the film in Japan.

Originally slated for a 2012 release, it's unknown when Godzilla will storm his way back into theaters!
