This was "Atlas Comics". Many new heroes were created including the likes of The Scorpion, The Cougar, Ironjaw and The Grim Ghost. However, Atlas couldnt quite beat the already established heroes published by Marvel and DC and soon folded.

Now, Deadline are reporting that the company will be brought back by his grandson beginning with the relaunch of The Grim Ghost and Phoenix. "Although my grandfather eventually sold Marvel, he insisted on keeping Atlas Comics in the family," Jason said. "As a result of his vision, Atlas Comics is the largest individually-held library of comic book heroes and villains on the planet. We have 28 titles and hundreds of characters imagined by some of the greatest minds in the industry."

Comic writer J.M. DeMatteis will be editor-in-chief. It's worth remembering that now comic book movies are such a money earner for studios, we could see many of these Atlas characters sold off to star on either the big or small screen especially if their upcoming return to comic books is a success!
