Lauren Ambrose knows 'WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE'

Lauren Ambrose ("Six Feet Under") is swinging in to voice one of the title characters in the Warner Bros fantasy film Where the Wild Things Are.

The feature adaptation of Maurice Sendak's 1963 children's tale follows the adventures of Max, a head-strong young boy who sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns. Ambrose plays KW, one of the giant creatures who make Max the king of their land.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's GREGG GOLDSTEIN and CARLY MAYBERRY, Ambrose is replacing the previously-cast Michelle Williams, whose voice didn't match up with director Spike Jonze's vision of how the Wild Thing should sound.

The cast includes Catherine Keener, Benicio Del Toro, Forest Whitaker, Catherine O'Hara and James Gandolfini. Jonze and Dave Eggers wrote the screenplay. The film, co-produced by Tom Hanks, will use voice actors, computer animation and live-action puppeteering to bring the story to life.

Where the Wild Things Are is set for release in Fall '08.
